E. L. Stubbs Research Grant

The E. L. Stubbs research grant is presented is available for clinical studies in the field of avian medicine and surgery (including caged birds, aviculture, poultry and wild bird rehabilitation).

The award is presented in honor of Evan L. Stubbs, VMD, a life long scholar, distinguished teacher and researcher, including avian medicine.

Dr. Stubbs is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania who after three years in private practice joined the Pennsylvania Bureau of Agriculture where he became Director of Laboratories in 1925.

In 1927 Dr. Stubbs joined the Veterinary School’s Pathology Department as assistant professor, and in 1930, he became a full professor.

During his career Dr. Stubbs published 161 scientific papers with subjects ranging from identification of avian influenza to avian viral induced tumors.

The MASAAV is pleased to recognize Dr. Stubbs' pioneering work by offering this grant.

Applicants need not be members of MASAAV.

Applications can be submitted at any time during the year and will be considered by the board at the next scheduled board meeting
-
Applicant must submit the required MASAAV form, a 4 page research proposal and budget.

Form may be requested in writing or by email.

Amount of the award will be decided by the board but generally will be up to $2000.

Half of the grant amount will be awarded to the applicant upon the project being approved.

The awardee is required to present his or her findings at the next annual conference, prior to reporting the findings at any other meeting or in any publication.

The awardee will also submit a short summary of the project and the findings to be published in the MASAAV newsletter.

The remaining grant funds will be awarded after the awardee presents
research results at the conference.
